HOW WONDERFUL PEOPLE CAN BE!
Ah, the joys of broken bones! Yet another
incident on horseback finds me frustrated and incapacitated, yet
happy to be alive.
This time I broke my hand in three
places. Yeah, it hurts. Puffed up, turned yellow and blue, with
black knuckles accentuating, it does make a pretty ugly picture,
it makes typing a slow and painful ordeal, and it makes an
amazing number of daily little tasks an arduous annoyance. How
we take our limbs for granted!
I tell you my tale of woe for a
reason-that reason being the Penticton Regional Hospital, and
how very lucky we all are in this town to be blessed with such a
fine establishment.
I was treated so well there- my doctors
were thorough, efficient and caring. The entire staff in ER was
great, as so were all the good people in OR, the Day Surgery
ward. X-ray and CT. Kindness, compassion and knowledge preceded
the fact that they were all overwhelmed, busier than one armed
paper hangers, and towards the end of a shift, visibly drained
and exhausted. Never once did these overworked caring people
allow that to spill over to the patient. I was really impressed!
I wish to thank everyone who touched my life that day and to
extend a healthy round of applause to the entire staff at
Penticton Hospital for the wonderful service they all provide.
Man, I appreciate you.

Here at Twin Lakes we recently lost a
dear friend and neighbor. On May 15th Ed Courtney
passed away in his sleep, at the all too young age of fifty one.
His wife, Lee Ann, and sons Michael and
Shawn held a celebration on their ranch last Saturday that I
know made Ed proud. It was a fantastic turn out of 250-300
people, with a great potluck meal put on by everyone in the
community. It was a lovely celebration of Life, just exactly as
Ed would have asked for and wished.
Once again I find myself applauding how
wonderful people can be-this time for the fantastic support
shown to the Courtney family from this tiny community in their
hour of need.
We will all miss you Ed. Go ahead and kick
up some dust on that Hog of yours in Heaven, Hunny!
